The examination of human biomaterials and the analysis of the data obtained are an important tool in medical research. Certain biomaterials such as blood, tissue or urine are collected in a so-called biobank and linked to the associated medical data to enable or support this process. The patient’s consent is required for this procedure.
The "Augsburg Central BioBank" operated by Augsburg University Hospital is divided into an area where tissue is stored and a second area where liquid samples such as blood or urine are collected. The aim is to use the samples provided by the biobank to better understand diseases and improve prevention, detection and treatment of diseases.
